Faculty Feature - Dr. Julie Furrow

Faculty Feature - Julie Furrow, Ph.D., APRN, FNP-BC Nurses International is pleased to welcome Dr. Julie Furrow to the faculty. Nurses International is blessed to have another excellent clinician and educator on the team! Dr. Furrow supervises the following courses: Pathophysiology Advanced Physiology and Pathophysiology Health Promotion and Education Professor Furrow hails from Clarksburg, West Virginia, and enjoys integrating her Christian faith with her work with students and patients. She began her nursing career when she enrolled in a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Alderson-Broaddus College in the small town of Philippi, West Virginia. After graduation from Alderson-Broaddus, Professor Furrow began caring for patients at Fairmont General Hospital in Fairmont, WV. She soon moved back to her hometown of Beckley, West Virginia, where she began taking care of patients in an oncology/medical-surgical nursing unit. After three years of oncology and medical-surgical nursing, Dr. Furrow worked for a hospice and provided care to terminally ill patients in their homes. During her hospice years, Professor Furrow enrolled in a Master of Science in Nursing program and studied nursing administration and education. After graduation, Professor Furrow became a hospice manager and managed a hospital-owned hospice for six years. During the years of hospice administration, Dr. Furrow began to miss direct patient care and decided to return to school for a Post-Master’s Certificate from the Family Nurse Practitioner program at West Virginia University. While in school, Dr. Furrow was offered a teaching position at her alma mater, Alderson Broaddus University. Dr. Furrow enjoyed nursing education so much that she enrolled in a doctoral program for Nursing Education after she graduated from the Family Nurse Practitioner program, and she now teaches in the online RN-BSN program at Fairmont State University in Fairmont, West Virginia. Dr. Furrow completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree in education with an emphasis in nursing education from Capella University. She also works as a registered nurse in a rehabilitation unit at a local hospital and is pursuing part-time work as a family nurse practitioner. Professor Furrow's commitment to her faith, her students, and her patients make her an amazing addition to the faculty. The Nurses International team joyfully anticipates Professor Furrow's contributions to the organization as a whole and particularly to her work within her courses. Welcome, Professor Furrow!
